Which Setup for Which Season?

At a Glance

Every setup in our fleet excels in its intended season — there are no compromises, only perfectly matched choices.

Spring in Mongolia generally spans from March to mid-May, acting as a transitional, windy, and dry season often known for rapid weather shifts. While temperatures begin to rise above freezing, visitors should prepare for inconsistent conditions, including late snow, sunny days, and sandy winds.

Key Aspects of Spring in Mongolia:
Weather Conditions: Daytime temperatures can be pleasant ( to ), but nights remain cold (dropping below until May).
Spring Characteristics: It is quite windy and sometimes experiences sandstorms, particularly in the Gobi Desert. Weather in Central Mongolia is more stable.
Activities: This is the season for nomadic herders to welcome new baby animals, making it an excellent time for cultural, authentic rural, and home-stay adventures.
Travel Tips: Late spring (mid-May) is better for travel as the landscapes begin to turn green.

Suitable camping gear for Mongolia in spring:
 Hardshell Rooftop (3p)
Winter Expedition Tent (3–4p)
Land Cruiser + Heated Rooftop Tent (2p)
Summer in Mongolia generally spans from mid-May to mid-August, offering the most accessible and vibrant travel season of the year. Long daylight hours, lush green steppe, and warm temperatures make this the peak time to explore Mongolia's vast landscapes and experience its nomadic culture at its most alive.

Key Aspects of Summer in Mongolia:
Weather Conditions: Daytime temperatures are warm and pleasant (20°C to 30°C), with cooler nights (8°C to 15°C) that still require a light layer.
Summer Characteristics: July brings the famous Naadam Festival, Mongolia's biggest national celebration of wrestling, archery, and horse racing. Brief afternoon thunderstorms are common but rarely disruptive.
Activities: Ideal for horse trekking, hiking, eagle hunter visits, ger camp stays, and attending Naadam. Rivers and lakes are at their most beautiful and accessible.
Travel Tips: Book accommodation and tours well in advance for July, as it is the busiest month. Pack a light rain jacket alongside your sun protection.

Modern Ground Tent (2-4p)
Hardshell Rooftop (3p)

Autumn in Mongolia generally spans from mid-August to October, delivering some of the most spectacular scenery of the year as the steppe turns golden and the air becomes crisp and clear. It is widely regarded by experienced travellers as one of the finest times to visit.

Key Aspects of Autumn in Mongolia:
Weather Conditions: Daytime temperatures are mild and comfortable (10°C to 20°C in August–September), dropping sharply in October (0°C to 8°C during the day, well below freezing at night).
Autumn Characteristics: Golden landscapes, excellent visibility, and dramatically fewer crowds than summer. The first snows can arrive in October, adding a magical quality to the scenery.
Activities: Outstanding for photography, wildlife spotting, and the Golden Eagle Festival in early October in Bayan-Ulgii. Nomadic families begin their seasonal migration to winter pastures, offering rare cultural encounters.
Travel Tips: Early autumn (mid-August to September) offers the best balance of warmth and scenery. Pack warm layers for October travel as temperatures can drop quickly.
